Working With Google

We have worked with the team at Google Creative Labs on projects including YouTube Space Lab, Google Wonders, Jam with Chrome, Google Science Fair, Google Zeitgeist, Google Statements, Google Street View and Google Film Fair.

YouTube : Space Lab

This was an irresistible proposition: to get the YouTube generation engaged with science via a competition to devise an experiment to be live-streamed from the International Space Station. Working closely with Google Creative Labs, the YouTube marketing team and Across The Pond productions, we created the soundtrack and sound design on the launch film, engaging our global network of journalists and tastemakers to ensure the project would resonate with young people in every continent. The film got 4.4 million views in 24 hours, taking it to the top of the AdAge viral video chart. The project won many awards and our creative director gave a Cannes speech on the collaboration.

“Aurotone captured the mood perfectly and played an integral part in Space Lab being watched by millions”

—       Steve Vranakis, Executive Creative Director, Google

Jam with Chrome

Jam with Chrome is a Google experiment where everybody can play music live online with their friends,  designed to increase uptake of Google Chrome. To promote it, we made a film where the internet's most famous pianist, Keyboard Cat, jams with his friends using the website.

We worked closely with Google’s Executive Creative Director Steve Vranakis and Google’s Creative Lead and Designer Xavier Barrade to create a personality and theme for each of the characters, alongside commissioning and designing the launch film’s soundtrack.

The video received more than 5 million hits, helped Chrome reach the number 1 spot in the UK and built its image as a forward-looking browser.

Toyota : Google Street View

A collaboration between Toyota and Google Street View, the objective was to relieve the perceived range anxiety associated with electric cars. This first-of-its-kind website demonstrates this in a rich and immersive way and delivers a personalised experience for each visitor, directly based on their own everyday driving habits. Using the latest Google Chrome technology, the captivating experience asks visitors to input an every-day journey of their choosing.

Working closely with the team at Toaster, we researched the demographics of the target audience and the mood we wanted to convey to them, assembled a team to create ideas for the soundtrack, and delivered for the client a complex sound arrangement comprised of multiple interlocking parts that expanded or contracted to each individual car journey.

Google Science Fair

Do you have an idea that can change the world? Google Science Fair is an annual global competition for 13–18-year-olds to ignite their interest in science. We worked with the teams at Across the Pond Productions and Google Creative Labs, and a particular achievement was getting Mercury Award-winners Alt-J to offer their work pro-bono for the film.

Google Wonders

Led by Google’s Street View technology, the World Wonders Project allows users to virtually explore and discover a diverse range of sites from 18 countries. The project features 132 historic sites including Stonehenge, the archaeological areas of Pompeiiand the ancient Kyoto temples.
